Ciena switches rebooting due to polling and Calix E7 OLT CPU spike

    Description

      Good morning,

We purchased the professional version of Observium and after testing it with a few devices, I added about 300 devices to the inventory to be scanned by SNMP.

After doing so, we had 3 Ciena switches begin rebooting approximately 6 hours apart, continuously. The Ciena models are the LE-427, LE-310 and LE-311v.

We have about 30 of these devices throughout our network running on the same set of management VLANs that did not spontaneously reboot.

One of our 3 Calix E7-2 OLT units CPU also spiked for 3 days while we had Observium running.

After troubleshooting the issue, we turned off the Observium virtual server and both the Calix CPU spike went away and the Ciena switches stopped rebooting.

I had simply put the device IP addresses into the Observium 'Add Device' page with the SNMP credentials and let Observium begin polling.

Do you have a recommendation for modifying the way we would poll the devices?

Also, do you know if there is a known issue with polling Ciena or Calix equipment using Observium?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

      Sam.
