HP ProCurve Switches 2800s and 3400cl
Description
When a Procurve switch vLAN is configured to handle jumbo frames Observium will increment the FrameTooLongs counter on the Ethernet Errors graph of a port, based on an increment in the "Giants Rx" counter on the Procurve. However, these are not really errors since Jumbo Frames are enabled, HP explains it as follows (image of page is also attached):
"This is expected behavior. The counters are incrementing at the ASIC level and cannot be disabled. However, errors will not be added to the Event Log of a ProCurve Switch supporting Jumbo Frames.
Counters for Jumbo Frame support can be queried through the use of the following MIBs:
hpJumboStatsIndex
hpJumboStatsPkts1523to2047Octets
hpJumboStatsPkts2048to4095Octets
hpJumboStatsPkts4096to9216Octets"
So, can a test be put into Observium (maybe at graph generation time) that will check to see if port on a 2800 or 3400cl series Procurve has an MTU of 9216 and if so, ignore any data from the "Giants Rx" counter?
Thank you,
Alain
