    Description

      Hello,

I am looking for a way to trigger an alert on events I see in the Eventlog. I can’t find how to do it. For example, on an ESXi host, the event “Storage removed” appears. How can I set up an alert for this type of event?

      Thank you in advance,

      Thierry

This makes sense as a use-case.

The issue on our end is the complexity of the user-side configuration UI, and the broken/messy nature of the eventlog in Observium at present.

Perhaps an analog of the syslog alerting system would suffice, but once we implement something, it can never easily be changed.

          Hello Adam,

          Happy New Year 2025!

We use Observium to monitor our clients' equipments. We do not wish to send logs to our server. In any case, we do not want to accept incoming connections from our clients’ IPs. As a result, we are not using syslog.

On Discord, Landy told me it’s on his to-do list… I will wait patiently.

          Hi Thierry,

There's not a way to do this at the moment, though we have occasionally had people ask for it.

The reason we've not added it is that the eventlog is very noisy and not really very reliable or useful at the best of times, so the ability to generate notifications from it would be part of a complete replacement of it, but it's not been done yet.

Do the events you want to notify on not appear in syslog?

          Thanks,

          adam.
